falkeis²architects: Architecture in motion - The impact of active buildings. In a new low carbon world, ‘Active Buildings’ are stretching their wings towards the sky. Photovoltaic cells and Phase Change Materials as part of a movable building envelope are harvesting solar radiation for energy production and heating and interstellar radiation for cooling. Building-integrated energy production systems are utilizing renewable energy sources exclusively. The ‘Active Energy Building’ is the first realized prototype of an urban and decentralized energy production system providing a more democratic model of energy production as well as energy distribution.
